Effective emergency preparedness for children with autism may require individualization and educator training. This presentation will share outcomes from a professional development on designing and implementing fire and lockdown drill interventions and their social validity. Practical implications for improving training, implementation and preparedness in special education environments will be presented.
This paper presents findings from a mixed-methods research project to learn more about how pre-service teachers in a PWI make meaning of barriers and opportunities experienced within their teacher education. Utilizing critical whiteness theory, we seek to understand how participants articulate their social identities as they narrate navigating those experiences.
This session explores multimodal Descriptive Inquiry as an approach for advancing radical care in early childhood special education teacher preparation. Through cases of graduate students working with young disabled children and their families, we demonstrate how multimodal Descriptive Inquiry offers innovative, transformative, humanizing experiences for children and teachers alike.
